We meet the 3rd Monday of every month at the Eastern Monroe County Library in Stroudsburg, PA.

 NEXT MEETING:
 November 16th, 2009
Time: 7:00pm to 8:45pm

Click here for the Library and directions.

Our monthly meetings are focused on learning and playing these wonderful instruments.  We strive to learn & develop new tunes and songs that members bring and then "jam" at the end of the night to reinforce the learning and to develop our playing skills with others.  If you're in the Pocono region come join us!  BEGINNERS are especially welcome!!! (Other acoustic instruments are certainly welcome too!)

In NOVEMBER we're asking that you bring tunes related to giving thanks.  Also Terry was asked to put some tab together for a Shape note hymn entitled "Samanthra."  It will at least include melody & bass. It's opening lines are; "His voice as the sound of the dulcimer sweet is heard through the shadows of death."  Appropriate for November I think.  So come out Monday the 16th and join us.  As always, we'll make sure to focus time on our newer players to help them continue to improve their skills.

  Don't forget the Johnsonville Jam!
  November 27th - 4th Friday - day after Thanksgiving
 (details below)

=====================================================

In OCTOBER we looked at "Nobody Knows the Trouble I've Seen," that Terry put together - including a bass part.  He also brought a neat 2-part tune, "Fais Do Do" (Go to Sleep), and "Buck Eyed Rabbit," a cool little fiddle tune.  We tried David Schnaufer's "Starry Lullabye," that Dave brought to us back in August but we really need Dave to lead us (hint, hint Dave).  We also played some more of the tunes Don Pedi taught us.  Great nite!

In SEPTEMBER we did not work on David Schnaufer's "Starry Lullabye," that Dave brought last month for us - we will in October though.  We did review several of the tunes we learned with Don Pedi on the 13th of this month.  Dave T also brought a tune that he wrote and tabbed out for us - needs a name though.  Terry also keeps coming up with stuff... Wow! What a club!

We often use Stephen Seiferts' excellent book, "Join the Jam" in DAD.  It is an excellent resource of traditional "jam" tunes and he has expanded his offerings to DAA, Gosple Jam Tunes and other stuff.  If you don't have amy of Stephen's books you can order it directly through his Website - http://www.stephenseifert.com - and it comes with teaching CD's as well so you can get a head start on the club meeting! (There is tab for the Mountain Dulcimer players and music notation (melody) for the Hammered Dulcimer players.)
